The Last Scout

The Order of the Cockatrice was a female monastic congregation worshiping pagan goddesses of nature in the early years of the Rosen Imperium. It predated the official religion of the empire but was able to maintain its independence in exchange for providing the imperial army with experienced scouts and hunters. The Order's numbers dwindled as a result of numerous conflicts throughout the region and since the Horned Ecclesia actively persecuted pagans few recruits could join to replenish the ranks.

During their pagan ceremonies the sisters attached a single feather for every fallen member of their chapter. Since the chapters comprised of no more than half a dozen sisters, having numerous feathers on your uniform was a symbol of defeat and loss. Eventually the Order was secretly, and brutally, wiped out by the Church who in turn blamed the local barbarian tribes for the slaughter. Only one sister survived and after adorning her armor with as many feathers as she could find in the burning ruins of the monastery, she vowed to take revenge on those responsible for the killing of her sisters.
